Shavuoth
[ʃə'vu:əs, ʃα:vʊ'ɒt]
(also Shavuot)
noun a major Jewish festival held fifty days after the second day of Passover, originally a harvest festival but now also commemorating the giving of the Torah.
Origin
from Heb. šāū῾ōṯ 'weeks', with ref. to the weeks between Passover and Pentecost.
